Kari, I noticed those complaints too when reading reviews. I honestly don't understand it; I have absolutely no problem with the responsiveness. Saying "not suitable for day-to-day use" is utterly ridiculous and leaves me wondering whether the person in question had some other motive to slag off the Hero.

In fact, I had a friend round a couple of days ago and he had a iPhone 3G (not the GS) with him. I tested it briefly and its UI didn't feel any faster than Hero's. There were a couple of instances where Hero actually felt faster. I also thought Hero's screen is much sharper and clearer; iPhone's looked a bit "fuzzy" in comparison.

The biggest whine about the Hero in the blogs and reviews I've read has been the responsiveness of the UI. What's your take on this - some reviews have gone as far as describing the phone "not suitable for day-to-day use" because of slughisness. Well, the phone seems to be available in Finland now and on display on at least one major consumer electronics store chain so I guess I will check out myself...

True, true. Most of the minute and a half was actually spent on frantically skipping copyright warnings, various disclaimers and other such bullshit. If studios got rid of that crap they could shave the waiting time down to mere seconds.

"I did a quick comparison test by measuring how long it takes to enter the main menu of Pixar’s Cars BD. BD370 did it in 1 minute 26 seconds. PlayStation 3, still the uncrowned speed champ of Blu-ray players, did it in 1 minute 22 seconds. The difference is almost negligible."

Then again one could argue that it really, really shouldn't take a minute and a half to get a goddamn movie playing.

I thought Xeon 55xx was Gainestown:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon#5500-series_.22Gainestown.22

And I was planning to build dual X5550.

Though, even single Nehalem would beat my current dual Opteron systems in most applications.

I'm thinking about building Gainestown system myself to replace my 2 x Opteron dual-core.
