Blu(e) Underground.

One of my absolute favourites among independent home video publishers, Blue Underground, has finally made an announcement listing some of their forthcoming Blu-ray releases.

The publisher seems to value quality above all else; features listed include full 1080p resolution, 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks and plentiful extras. The promotional video running on Blue Underground site features such cult classics as The Final Countdown, Fire and Ice, Vigilante, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Stendhal Syndrome, Dead & Buried, Two Evil Eyes, Uncle Sam and Maniac.

Some of these titles are quite old and very low budget, so I can’t help but wonder about the quality and condition of their sources. I don’t think Blue Underground has the resources to do a full digital restoration process on the source material, so it will be very exciting to see the end results. Let’s hope they won’t ruin their Blu-ray releases like Anchor Bay did with Evil Dead II and Romero’s zombie movies…
